Seedpots

You can also use your Logmaker to make biodegradeable seedpots from old newspapers. Here’s how:

1. Take your sheet of tabloid newspaper and fold in half, now fold the bottom section upwards     leaving 2” uncovered.

Fig 1

2. Now fold the 2” downwards.

(If using a broadsheet newspaper we suggest you cut one sheet in half then follow these instructions.)

Fig 2

3. Take the plunger out of your Logmaker and with the lip overhanging a table roll the folded       newspaper around the bottom of the Logmaker, leaving about 2” overhanging at the               bottom.

Fig 3

4. Tuck the overhanging ends inside the tube and then stand the Logmaker upright        on a table and insert the plunger.  Push down to make a seal at the bottom.

Fig 4

5. Now use the plunger to carefully remove the newspaper from the tube. Fold the top     lip of the newspaper over to make a neat edge.

Now fill with compost and use the Logmaker plunger lightly to firm and then insert your seed or seedling and water lightly. Transfer to greenhouse and thence straight into the ground - there is no need to remove the newspaper.  The newspaper pot will support your seedling ensuring the delicate roots are not disturbed and it will help to maintain moisture at the roots as the seedling becomes established.  After a while the newspaper pot will naturally biodegrade into the soil.

Tip: Experiment with different size pots for different plants.
